Why do those on the Left hate citizen initiatives?
Here in Washington State we have seen many examples of the Democrats (and their wealthy special interest friends) attacking the initiative process. This has included:
- Supporting legislation to weaken the initiative process
- Spending tens of millions to defeat citizen initiatives
- Recklessly adding “emergency” clauses to controversial bills which prohibit initiatives
- Hire expensive law firms to overturn initiatives, then never supporting the will of the public by passing a court-approved version of the initiative in legislature
- Write confusing titles to citizen initiatives
Now Democrat activists are physically intimidating signature gatherers, and sometimes ripping up or stealing full signature sheets.
This is very disturbing.
Democrats are trying to make it so citizens will have to hire armed guards to collect signatures. This cannot be the future of our democracy.
Why are Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown (and evidently all Democrat politicians) so flippant about these attacks? They need to do their job and vehemently protect the rights of ALL citizens, not just their campaign donors.
They appear to care more about the Democrat machine than citizens’ constitutional rights.
