Dear Gov. Inslee,
The importance of education is written into Washington’s constitution.
Section 1 of Article IX plainly states, “it is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders, without distinction or preference on account of race, color, caste, or sex.”
In the COVID-19 era, “ample provision” must include teacher safety. Washington lawmakers have a responsibility to put teachers next in line for vaccination, right now, so we can begin the process of reopening schools.
