Sawant Gets a Lawyer and Taxpayers Get Stuck with the Bill
September 17, 2020
A Superior Court Judge ruled that there was enough evidence to move forward with the recall petition against Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant.
According to a King 5 News report, the judge ruled that four allegations made against Sawant can proceed.
These are serious allegations ranging from misusing public resources to doxing Mayor Durkin. Sawant now faces the real prospect of being removed from office.
But thanks to the Seattle City Council, she’s going to have the best lawyers that your money can buy.
Councilor Sawant hired lawyers to defend her reckless behavior – and the people of Seattle are getting stuck with the bill!
It seems the idea of taxpayers covering Sawant’s legal fund is unpopular everywhere except at City Hall, where the City Council voted 7-1 in favor of the bill.
This is not the first time Sawant has faced ethical questions about misusing her office. SCC Insight did a pretty good run down on some of her greatest hits.
Seattle resident Ernie Lou, who filed the original recall complaint, now has 180 days to gather enough signatures to get Sawant’s recall on the ballot for voters.
